Membrane bioreactor (MBR) is a new type of wastewater treatment system combining membrane separation technology and biological wastewater treatment technology. Its main components include bioreactor, membrane module and control system. Among them, the degradation of pollutants in the bioreactor mainly provides a place for the degradation process. The membrane module is composed of the membrane and its supporting part, which is the core part of the whole reactor.


Due to the different membrane modules and the different combinations of membrane modules and bioreactors, MBR can have a variety of classification methods:


1. According to the pore size of the membrane module membrane in the bioreactor, the MBR reactor can be divided into microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, pervaporation and other reactors.


2. According to whether aeration is needed in the bioreactor reaction process, it can be divided into aerobic membrane bioreactor and anaerobic membrane bioreactor. Among them, the aerobic type is mainly used to treat urban wastewater and domestic sewage, and the anaerobic type is mainly used to treat high-concentration organic wastewater.


3. According to the form and arrangement method of the membrane in the membrane module, MBR can be divided into plate and frame type, spiral wound type, round tube type, capillary type and hollow fiber type membrane module. Among them, the common ones are plate and frame type and hollow fiber type.


4. According to the effect of the membrane module, it can be divided into separation MBR, aeration MBR and extraction MBR. The separation type is mainly used to remove suspended particles in sewage and efficiently complete solid-liquid separation. Aeration is mainly used for the treatment of high oxygen demand wastewater. The extraction type is mainly used in industrial wastewater treatment to complete the extraction and collection of pollutants in wastewater.


5. According to the different placement of membrane modules and bioreactors, MBR can be divided into separate and integrated membrane bioreactors. The split-type membrane bioreactor is also called circulating membrane bioreactor. The mixed liquid enters the inside of the module by pressurization. Under the action of pressure, the liquid penetrates the membrane and the solid particles are trapped. In the integrated type, the membrane module is directly placed inside the reactor.
